Monday of Holy Week
Note: Readings based on Year C of the Revised Common Lectionary
Candle Lighting: Light a white candle for Christ and only
four of the purple candles.
Question: Why do we light only four purple candles?
Response: We light only four purple candles because we know
there have been times when our discipleship, our following of Jesus,
has grown faint or been crushed.
Scripture: Isaiah 42: 1-9
Prayer:
You
have come to us.
You,
who created the heavens and the earth,
who gives us life and breath,
who makes the former things to pass
and declares the new before it arrives.
You
have come to us,
to open our eyes,
to teach us Your Way,
to bring us low and lift us up with faithful judgment.
And yet,
at times,
we still choose instead to sit in our prisons
and our darkness,
blind,
giving Your glory to idols.
Take us again by the hand,
may we cling to it.
Give us again to the people,
as a light
for Your glory. Amen.
Singing: Choose an appropriate hymn to sing together, such
as:
Jesus Christ is Waiting, John L. Bell, 1984
When a Poor One, J.A. Olivar and Miguel Manzano, 1976
Proclamation:
How precious is your steadfast love, O God!
All people may take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
They feast on the abundance of your house,
and you give them drink from the river of your delights.
For with you is the fountain of life;
in your light we see light. ~ Psalm 36: 7-9
