Maundy Thursday
Based on Lection Year C
Candle Lighting: Light a white candle for Christ and only
one of the purple candles.
Question: Why do we light only one purple candle?
Response: We light only one purple candle because we have not
always loved one another as Jesus loves us.
Scripture: John 13: 1-17, 31b-35
Prayer:
You,
our servant Lord and Teacher,
You do the work of a slave,
dirty, thankless, dying work
with such tenderness and compassion
holding,
washing,
drying
tears.
Do this again for us.
Hold our feet,
rough and ruined from heavy burdens.
Wash them with rest.
Wipe them clean and healed.
Teach us again to do this for one another.
Heighten our communion,
that we will risk revealing our need
and that we will fall on our knees to serve.
Do this again for a world
too full of tired, aching woundedness.
Hold.
Wash.
Heal. Amen.
Singing: Choose an appropriate hymn to sing together, such
as:
We Are Pilgrims, Richard Gillard, 1977
Proclamation:
I give you a new commandment, that you love one another.
Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.
By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if
you have love for one another. ~ John 13: 34-35
