Tuesday of Holy Week
Based on Lectionary Year C
Candle Lighting: Light a white candle for Christ and only
three of the purple candles.
Question: Why do we light only three purple candles?
Response: We light only three purple candles because at times
we have relied on our
own wisdom instead of God's foolishness.
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 1: 18-31
Prayer:
You
astounded us.
Christ crucified Your power and wisdom.
Foolishness and weakness
God crucified,
abhorrent, rejected, defiled
and bidding us to follow.
You
astounded us.
Descending to the dead,
transforming stone cold endings,
rising to new life,
defeating the end You'd been put to.
Quell our fear,
humble our arrogance,
embolden our trust,
steady our stumbling
over You,
for the sake of Your beloved world. Amen.
Singing: Choose an appropriate hymn to sing together, such
as:
Open My Eyes, That I May See, Clara H. Scott, 1895
Be Thou My Vision, Irish 8th century, trans. Mary Elizabeth Byrne,
1905
Proclamation:
Very truly, I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into
the earth and dies, it remains just a single grain; but
if it dies, it bears much fruit. ~ John 12: 24
