Wednesday of Holy Week
Based on Lectionary Year C
Candle Lighting: Light a white candle for Christ and only
two of the purple candles.
Question: Why do we light only two purple candles?
Response: We light only two purple candles because there have
been times when we have betrayed Jesus.
Scripture: John 13: 21-32
Prayer:
In the night time
of our fear,
our embarrassment,
our ignorance,
we have betrayed You.
You,
in Your very particular incarnation,
Jesus of Nazareth,
carpenter, healer, prophet,
Messiah,
crucified
and risen.
Strengthen us, we pray,
in our following,
in our imitating,
in our love,
of You.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil. Amen.
Singing: Choose an appropriate hymn to sing together, such
as:
Come, O Fount of Every Blessing, Robert Robinson, 1758
Jesus Calls Us, Cecil Frances Alexander, 1852
Proclamation:
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of
witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that
clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that
is
set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our
faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured
the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the
right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such
hostility against himself from sinners, so that you may not grow
weary or lose heart. ~ Hebrews 12: 1-3
