Beginning on January 6th, we mark the Epiphany, when Jesus’ divine nature and mission are revealed to the world through the visit of the Magi. This is followed by Jesus’ baptism and his first miracle of turning water to wine at Cana. Through much of the church’s history, it was the Epiphany that was the focus of the church’s celebration of Advent, Christmas and Epiphany.
Our Epiphany table centrepiece includes the star which guided the Magi to Jesus, containers for the gifts of the Magi (two of which do contain frankincense and myrrh), as well as a small bowl of water and a dove for Jesus’ baptism. The colour for this season is green which symbolizes growth in our love and following – our discipleship – of Jesus.
